Mixing and mastering are the final, critical stages of music production. Mixing involves the precise placement and balancing of recorded individual tracks, while mastering optimizes the final stereo file's loudness and tonal balance to meet distribution standards. No matter how exceptional the performance or arrangement is, if the final processing is inadequate, the artistic intent of the piece will not be accurately conveyed to the audience. At Timolabaadvisory, we provide sonic design that transcends genres by combining technical engineering with a deep understanding of musical context.

Our approach goes beyond simple volume adjustment. We focus on resolving frequency conflicts and constructing a sophisticated stereo image to create a three-dimensional soundstage with depth and width. Operating from our treated studio environment in Sapporo, we utilize a hybrid digital and analog workflow. This allows us to maintain modern edge and precision while preserving the musical warmth required for a professional master. We ensure your track translates perfectly from high-end studio monitors to consumer headphones and mobile devices.

01

Analysis & Planning

We review your multitrack files and analyze the composition's structure. Based on your reference tracks and goals, we create a sonic blueprint for the mix.

02

The Mixing Phase

Using EQ, compression, and spatial effects, we define the role of each instrument, carving out frequency space to ensure clarity and impact.

03

Mastering Stage

The mixed stereo file undergoes final tonal shaping and loudness optimization to reach commercial standards without sacrificing dynamic range.

04

QC & Delivery

We perform quality checks across multiple listening environments. After your final approval, we deliver the files in the requested professional formats.

Who is this service for?

This service is designed for independent artists, producers, and songwriters who have completed their recording sessions—whether in a home studio or a professional facility—and now require a "finished product" sound. It is particularly effective for those facing the following technical challenges:

  • Instruments clashing in the mid-range, resulting in a "muddy" or cluttered overall sound.
  • Vocals that feel disconnected or buried under the accompaniment, making lyrics hard to discern.
  • Uncontrolled low-end frequencies that cause the track to sound inconsistent across different speaker systems.
  • Tracks that sound quiet or thin when compared to professional releases on Spotify, Apple Music, or Tidal.
  • A lack of spatial depth, where the song feels "flat" and lacks professional reverb or delay textures.

Our Technical Approach

In the mixing stage, we prioritize "subtractive" engineering. By removing unnecessary frequency build-ups, we create room for every instrument to breathe. For example, if the kick drum and bass guitar are fighting for the same 60Hz-100Hz range, we apply precise surgical EQ to prioritize one while maintaining the definition of the other. We then manage dynamics through serial compression to ensure the energy of the chorus is significantly more impactful than the verse.

During mastering, we unify the tone of the entire project. We use multi-band compression and high-end limiting to ensure the track is competitive in loudness while avoiding digital clipping or audible distortion. This ensures that whether the song is played in a car, a club, or through earbuds, the artist's vision remains intact.

Client Preparation Requirements

To ensure an efficient workflow and the highest quality result, we require specific data preparation. For detailed technical specifications, please visit our File Formats and Delivery Guide.

  • Multitrack Data: Individual files for each instrument and vocal track in WAV format (minimum 24-bit/44.1kHz).
  • Track List: A clear document identifying each file (e.g., "Kick_In", "Snare_Top", "Lead_Vocal_Main").
  • Reference Tracks: One or two commercially released songs that represent the target sonic balance and mood.
  • Instruction Sheet: Specific notes such as "Make the vocals more intimate" or "Add more grit to the bass guitar."

Deliverables and Output

Upon completion and final approval, you will receive a comprehensive delivery package including:

  • Final Master File: High-resolution WAV file (industry standard) and a high-quality MP3 for quick sharing.
  • Instrumental Version: A full mix without lead vocals, essential for licensing and promotional use.
  • Stem Files: Grouped files (e.g., all drums, all vocals, all synths) provided as an option for future remixing or live performance.

All files are exported with the correct sampling rates and bit depth, making them ready for immediate upload to digital distribution platforms.

Timeline and Scheduling

Our standard turnaround time from receipt of materials to the first draft (First Mix) is 5 to 10 business days. Because the process involves iterative feedback, the total time from start to final delivery typically spans 2 to 3 weeks. We operate according to our studio hours in Sapporo (Mon-Fri 10-21, Sat 10-18). Urgent requests may be accommodated for an additional rush fee upon consultation.

What is NOT included

This service focuses strictly on audio post-production. The following tasks are not part of the Mixing & Mastering package:

  • Musical Rearrangement: We do not change chord progressions, song structures, or add new instrument parts.
  • Advanced Tuning: Intensive pitch correction (Auto-Tune/Melodyne) or rhythmic alignment is available as a separate hourly add-on.
  • Recording Sessions: This is a data-based service. If you need to record new parts, please see our Services Hub for recording plans.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many revisions are included in the price?

Our standard plan includes up to 3 rounds of revisions after the first draft is delivered. This allows us to fine-tune the balance based on your feedback. Significant changes to the original multitrack files or a complete change in artistic direction may incur additional costs.

Can I request mastering only without mixing?

Yes. If you already have a completed stereo mix, we can provide standalone mastering to optimize loudness and tonal balance. Please contact us for a custom quote for mastering-only projects.

Who owns the rights to the final master?

Full ownership and rights to the final master file are transferred to the client immediately upon 100% payment of the service fee. Timolabaadvisory claims no ownership over the intellectual property of the music.
