Vocal Recording
Capture your voice with precision and clarity in the quiet environment of Sapporo. We provide a dedicated acoustic space and engineering expertise to bring out the authentic character of every performer.
Book a Session
Vocal recording is a critical stage that defines the overall impression of a musical project. At Timolabaadvisory, we utilize our 120m² studio area to provide a specialized vocal cabin that completely isolates the performer from external noise. Our focus is not only on the technical capture of sound but also on creating a psychological environment where the artist feels secure and focused, which is essential for a natural performance.
By employing large-diaphragm condenser microphones and precise signal chains, we capture a balanced frequency response from deep lows to airy highs. Despite our location in Chuo-ku, Sapporo, our rigorous acoustic treatment ensures a clean signal free from ambient interference. This provides a high-quality raw material that simplifies the subsequent editing and mixing phases, ensuring the final product meets commercial standards.
Recording Workflow
01. Pre-Session Consultation and Setup
Before the recording begins, we conduct a detailed review of the song's direction, the desired vocal texture, and reference tracks. Our engineers, Mana Kimura or Mio Nakamura, select the most appropriate microphone and preamp combination based on the voice type. All signal routing is tested, and the session is set up in the DAW so that the artist can start recording immediately upon arrival.
02. Sound Check and Monitoring Adjustment
We perform a comprehensive sound check to optimize input levels and check for phase coherence. A key part of this step is adjusting the monitoring environment; we ensure the performer hears their voice accurately and comfortably in the headphones. This precise monitoring allows the artist to maintain better control over pitch and timing throughout the session.
03. Tracking and Take Management
During the main recording, the engineer provides technical support and maintains the flow of the session. We record multiple takes with varying emotional nuances and delivery styles. This approach allows for "comping" during post-production, where the most successful phrases from different takes are combined into a single, cohesive performance.
04. Data Review and Export
At the end of the session, the engineer and the client review the recorded takes together to select the primary versions. Files are then organized, labeled, and backed up. We export the data in the requested format, ensuring that the session files are safely stored in our local archive before the final delivery to the client.
Service Specifications
Who is this service for?
Our vocal recording service is designed for singer-songwriters preparing single releases, idol groups, voice actors, and narrators. It is also highly suitable for podcasters who require high-fidelity recordings for their introductions or advertisements. This service is specifically for those who need to eliminate environmental noise—such as air conditioning or street traffic—that cannot be removed in home recording setups.
The role of the engineer during the session
The engineers at Timolabaadvisory act as technical partners. Beyond operating the software, they manage gain staging to prevent clipping and ensure the pop filter is positioned correctly for the performer's height and movement. By handling all technical aspects, the engineer allows the artist to focus entirely on their performance without worrying about the hardware or software stability.
Client preparations
To maximize the allocated studio time, we ask clients to prepare several items. Please provide lyrics or scripts in digital or printed format. We strongly recommend sending the instrumental backing tracks in WAV format via email or cloud storage prior to the session. This allows us to import the tracks and set up the click track in advance. For a detailed checklist, please see our Preparation Guide for Recording.
Deliverables and file formats
Following the session, we provide the selected takes as high-resolution WAV files (typically 44.1kHz/24bit or 48kHz/24bit). Depending on the agreement, we can also provide the raw multi-track stems. All files are delivered via a secure cloud download link or transferred to a physical drive provided by the client. We ensure that the naming convention is clear, identifying each take and section of the song.
Timelines and scheduling
Primary data is typically delivered within 24 hours after the session ends. If the project requires extensive take selection or basic editing, a separate timeline will be agreed upon. Regarding scheduling, we offer free cancellation or rescheduling up to 3 days before the appointment. Cancellations made after this period may be subject to fees as outlined in our Terms of Service.
What is not included in this service
This service is strictly focused on the recording phase. It does not include songwriting, lyric writing, arrangement, or advanced pitch correction (such as heavy tuning or "auto-tune" effects). Detailed mixing and mastering—which involve balancing the vocals with the music and finalizing the loudness for streaming—are separate processes. If you require these, please refer to our Mixing & Mastering service.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much recording time should I book?
While it depends on the artist's experience and the number of songs, we generally recommend budgeting 2 to 3 hours per song. This includes the initial sound check, rehearsal, and several takes to ensure the best performance. A relaxed schedule reduces pressure and usually results in a more authentic recording.
Can performers under 16 years old use the studio?
For safety and legal reasons, performers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Individuals aged 16 and older are permitted to book and use the studio independently.
How long do you store the recorded data?
Timolabaadvisory maintains a backup archive of all sessions for 12 months after the recording date. Due to storage limitations, data older than 12 months is permanently deleted. We strongly advise all clients to maintain their own secondary backups upon delivery.
Can I change my booking at the last minute?
You may reschedule or cancel your appointment free of charge up to 3 days before the scheduled date. For changes made within this 3-day window, the deposit may be non-refundable. Please refer to our Terms of Service for more details.
